Bayhealth coordinates drive for Food Bank of Delaware 

Bayhealth, in partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware, recently held a successful food drive aimed at addressing food insecurity within the community. The initiative, titled Hunger Doesn't Stop After the Holidays, received overwhelming support from community members, businesses and organizations throughout the state.

Bayhealth collected more than 1,300 pounds of nonperishable food items Jan. 15-28, at its Kent and Sussex campuses, as well as Bayhealth at Blue Hen. The generous donations were delivered to the Food Bank of Delaware in the Bayhealth Mobile Care Unit.

"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported our food drive," said Lindsay Rhodenbaugh, DMin, president of the Bayhealth Foundation. "Their contributions will make a significant difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity.”

The success of the food drive highlights the compassion and generosity of the community, as well as Bayhealth's commitment to improving the well-being of Delawareans.

"Our commitment to our friends and neighbors across Kent and Sussex counties reaches well beyond our hospital walls," said Amanda Bowie, interim vice president for Bayhealth marketing, communications and community outreach. "Our community outreach efforts are inspired by the people of our community and helping them live their healthiest lives. We're passionate about what we do, especially when we get to work with such exceptional partners as the Food Bank of Delaware."

Throughout the year, Bayhealth partners with the Food Bank of Delaware on the 302 Food Rescue app. The app connects volunteers known as the 302 Food Rescue Crew with fresh, nutritious foods from participating grocery stores, caterers, restaurants and others, and allows them to deliver to organizations that serve food-insecure individuals across the First State.

Bayhealth also provides free boxes of food to patients experiencing food insecurity. The boxes include shelf-stable, low-sodium, low-sugar food. They are intended to feed recipients for the week or so between discharge and signing up for long-term assistance through Unite Delaware or FBD.

Team members from Bayhealth and the Food Bank of Delaware extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who participated in the food drive to help alleviate hunger and bring hope to those in need.
